Grain, wheat and fruit production declines in Tajikistan
Tajikistan recorded a decline in the production of grain, wheat, melons and fruit in the first half of 2026, despite overall growth in the agricultural sector.
First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Nourali Asozoda presented the figures at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 9.
According to him, grain production amounted to 632,600 tons, down 46,500 tons, or 6,8%, compared with the same period last year.
Wheat output fell more sharply, declining by 77,300 tons, or 13,3%, to 501,800 tons.
Melon production decreased by 25,300 tons, or 4,3%, to 565,000 tons, while fruit output fell by 39,000 tons, or 13,1%, to 258,700 tons.
Asozoda separately highlighted a 48,600-ton decline in apricot production.
He attributed the drop mainly to climate change and frost, which affected fruit crops, particularly stone fruits such as apricots.
The figures were also affected by delays in the re-registration of some dehqon farms and their failure to submit statistical reports on time.
«As of July 7, of the 179,100 active dehqon farms, 174,800, or 97,6%, had completed re-registration and submitted statistical reports. The remaining 4,300 farms, or 2,4%, had not completed re-registration or submitted reports,» Asozoda said.
He added that the recording of agricultural production by households begins in July, after data from Form No. 4 on the main areas planted with agricultural crops are compiled.
Household production accounts for more than half of Tajikistan’s total agricultural output.
Apricot producers in Sughd province had previously also reported a sharp decline in the harvest. Farmers in Isfara and Asht attributed the losses to rain and cold weather during the flowering period.
One processor estimated that only around 20–25% of the usual apricot harvest remained this season and that processing volumes could fall almost threefold.
