Construction of a new cement plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year has begun in Tajikistan
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, during a working trip to Khatlon Region, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new cement plant in Kushanyan District. The enterprise will be the fourth cement plant whose construction has begun in the country over the past two months amid cement shortages and rising prices.
According to a statement from the press service of the head of state, the plant will be built on a territory of 30 hectares in the village of Nurafsho in the settlement of Bustonkala in Kushanyan District. The responsibility for implementing the project has been assigned to the private company «Sementi Khatlon.» Construction is planned to be completed by 2029.
According to official data, during the construction phase, approximately 1,000 workers will be involved in the work. After the facility is put into operation, the enterprise will be able to produce up to 1.2 million tons of cement per year and will provide employment for more than 700 employees.
The new plant will be located near the limestone deposit «Kurgontepa» in Kushanyan, which will allow the use of local raw materials for cement production.
Emomali Rahmon noted that the construction of such enterprises contributes to increasing the output of domestic products, efficient use of natural resources, creation of new jobs, and development of the regions’ economies.
Earlier, after cement shortages emerged and its cost increased, the head of state instructed in late May that four new cement plants be built in the country by 2029.
