Tajik authorities advise 142 families to relocate from hazardous areas
Tajik authorities recommended that 142 households relocate from areas vulnerable to hazardous geological processes in the first half of 2026, the head of the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan, Ilhom Oimuhammadzoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 7.
According to him, the recommendations were made following engineering and geological surveys conducted under the State Service for Monitoring Exogenous Geological Processes project.
Over the past six months, specialists surveyed 55 villages, settlements and other populated areas in districts of republican subordination, as well as in Khatlon and Sughd regions.
The surveys were carried out in Kulob, Baljuvon, Roghun, Varzob, Rasht, Tojikobod, Lakhsh, Jomi, Yovon, Temurmalik, Vose, Nourobod and Roudaki districts, among others.
As part of the project, specialists identify settlements located in risk zones, determine the most dangerous areas and, where necessary, recommend that residents be moved to safer locations.
For comparison, in 2025 the Main Geology Directorate recommended relocating 119 residential buildings and one educational institution to safer areas.
In the first half of 2026, the directorate also carried out hydrogeological and engineering-geological work, including groundwater monitoring and searches for water supply sources for healthcare, education and other social facilities.
