Average monthly salary in Tajikistan rises 20% year-on-year, statistics show
The average monthly nominal salary in Tajikistan reached 3,262.7 somoni in April 2026, up 20,3% from the same month a year earlier, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Adjusted for inflation, real wages increased by 16,1% year-on-year, indicating that wage growth outpaced consumer price increases.
For the first four months of 2026, the average nominal monthly salary stood at 3,197.2 somoni.
Highest-paying sectors
The average monthly salary in the real sector of the economy reached 3,482.8 somoni in April, while employees in the service sector earned an average of 3,201.7 somoni. Both figures were higher than those recorded a year earlier.
Among real-sector industries, the highest average wages were paid in electricity, gas, and steam supply, while the lowest were recorded in agriculture, forestry, and fishing.
In the service sector, employees in financial and insurance activities received the highest average salaries, followed by workers in information and communications.
Within the social sector, average wages in education exceeded those in healthcare and social services.
Wage arrears decline
Outstanding wage arrears totaled 14.2 million somoni at the end of April, a decline of nearly 25% from the previous month, according to the statistics agency.
Most unpaid wages remained concentrated in the real sector of the economy. In the service sector, wage arrears fell by more than 40% during the month.
By industry, the largest arrears were reported in agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as transportation and storage.
Regionally, the largest amounts of unpaid wages were recorded in Sughd Province and Dushanbe, while smaller arrears were reported in the districts of republican subordination and Khatlon Province.
Tajikistan ranks 138th globally for net salaries
Tajikistan ranked 138th in CEOWORLD Magazine’s 2025 global ranking of average monthly net salaries.
According to the publication, the average monthly take-home pay after taxes in Tajikistan was US276. $
Among Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan ranked 77th with an average net monthly salary of US780, $ followed by Turkmenistan in 80th place with US761, $ Uzbekistan in 117th with US458, $ and Kyrgyzstan in 132nd with US335. $
The authors of the ranking noted that cross-country salary comparisons should take into account inflation, the cost of living, labor market conditions, and differences in employment structures.
