How Russia’s fuel supply disruptions could affect Tajikistan

How Russia’s fuel supply disruptions could affect Tajikistan
Supply disruptions in Russia’s fuel market are raising concerns in Tajikistan, which relies on Russia for more than 70% of its petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Although no fuel shortages have been reported in the country, gasoline and diesel prices have already risen in recent weeks, while officials say they are closely monitoring the situation.
Russia grapples with fuel supply disruptions
Russia has experienced disruptions in gasoline and diesel supplies for several weeks, prompting the government to introduce measures aimed at stabilizing the domestic market.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has described the situation as «challenging but manageable,» saying additional fuel supplies will be directed to affected regions.
Russian state media have attributed the disruptions to logistical problems, seasonal demand, panic buying, and efforts to curb speculation.
Independent media, however, point to a decline in refinery output. According to Meduza, gasoline production fell by about 25% during the week of June 15-21 compared with the average daily level recorded earlier in June. As of June 30, there were no official reports indicating that production had returned to normal.
Meduza linked the decline to temporary shutdowns at several major refineries in central Russia following drone attacks. Reuters reported that daily gasoline production had fallen to about 85,000 metric tons, while peak summer demand reaches approximately 110,000 tons.
