Integration, Investments, and Energy Independence: How the EDB is Expanding Cooperation with Tajikistan
The future competitiveness of Eurasia will be determined not only by the volume of investments but also by the development of transport, energy, and digital connectivity between countries, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Farhod Vosidiyon stated today at the annual meeting and business forum of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) that opened in Almaty.
At the anniversary event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the EDB, cooperation with the Republic of Tajikistan stood out as one of the key practical tracks focused on integrating the country into Central Asian processes, developing infrastructure, and overcoming geographical isolation.
"
According to him, Tajikistan serves as a natural transport and energy bridge connecting the Central Asian states.
"
«This will allow achieving qualitative economic growth,» he added.
Leadership in Economic Growth and Infrastructure ProjectsEarlier, at the presentation of the new EDB Macroeconomic Forecast for 2026–2028, the bank’s analysts named Tajikistan as one of the leaders in terms of economic growth rates in the region. It is expected that the GDP growth of the republic in 2026 will be 8,3%. The driver is high internal investment activity supported by development projects.
A practical confirmation of these words at the forum was the discussion of the megaproject «Eurasian Transport Framework» and the recent agreement on financing the construction of a key section of the Labijar — Kalai-Khumb highway for 18.5 $ million USD.
This project will ensure reliable year-round connectivity between Dushanbe and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region and will open new access routes to transboundary corridors for the country.
Chairman of the EDB Management Board Nikolay Podguzov, in his speech, called Tajikistan one of the fastest-growing economies in the EDB’s region of operations, emphasizing that the country demonstrates impressive dynamics.
He noted that the EDB has adopted a development strategy for 2027−2031, which includes attracting international capital for the implementation of large investment projects.
According to him, the Eurasian Development Bank plans to increase investments in Tajikistan, focusing on overcoming logistical barriers, modernizing the water-energy complex, and stimulating industrial growth.
Within the framework of the strategy until 2030, the bank aims to transform the current economic growth of the republic into sustainable development, supporting projects for integration into global markets and strengthening regional cooperation, Podguzov emphasized.
