Tajik, Iranian presidents discuss Iran-U.S. peace agreement and bilateral ties
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 18, congratulating the leadership and people of Iran on reaching a peace agreement with the United States.
According to the Tajik president’s press service, Rahmon welcomed the agreement, describing it as an important step that could contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East and strengthen international security.
He wished the Iranian people lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.
The two leaders also reviewed the current state of Tajik-Iranian relations and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation.
They reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and implementing new joint projects of mutual interest.
According to Iranian media reports, Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Tajikistan’s «brotherly and empathetic stance» during the negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Rahmon, in turn, reportedly said the agreement had brought «satisfaction to the nations of the region.»
According to Tehran Times, both presidents emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the economic, trade, tourism, and cultural sectors, while further strengthening the strategic partnership between Tehran and Dushanbe.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported that the leaders welcomed the recently signed memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities between Iran and the United States and stressed the need to reinforce peace and stability across the region.
Commenting on recent regional developments, Pezeshkian expressed hope that greater unity among Islamic countries would help prevent destabilizing actions and create conditions for sustainable peace and security.
The Iranian president highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and civilizational ties between Iran and Tajikistan, describing bilateral relations as strategic. He reiterated Tehran’s commitment to expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and thanked Rahmon for his messages of support and goodwill.
Pezeshkian also underscored the importance of continued consultations and reciprocal high-level visits to further enhance relations between the two countries.
For his part, Rahmon noted that reaching such an agreement under the current complex international circumstances had not been easy and said that Iran’s friends welcomed the progress.
