U.S. and Iran confirm signing of memorandum of understanding
The United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending hostilities and creating conditions for a final peace agreement, according to statements from U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
«It’s signed. Signed in Versailles. I just signed it,» Trump said following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles, according to the BBC Russian Service.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the document, according to official reports.
The memorandum, which is valid for 60 days, extends the previously announced ceasefire and outlines a series of measures designed to reduce tensions and advance peace negotiations.

Trump described the agreement as a preliminary step, noting that its implementation will depend on Iran fulfilling its commitments. He also warned that military action could resume if the diplomatic process breaks down.
According to the published provisions of the memorandum, the parties have agreed to cease military operations across the region, including in Lebanon. The document also provides for the gradual lifting of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports and the eventual withdrawal of American forces from Iran’s borders following the conclusion of a final peace treaty.
One of the key provisions concerns the restoration of free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Under the agreement, commercial vessels will be allowed to pass through the strategic waterway without duties during the next 60 days.
The United States also announced plans to establish, together with international partners, a fund of at least 300 $ billion for Iran’s reconstruction and economic development. The memorandum additionally envisages the gradual lifting of sanctions against Tehran, although a detailed timetable has yet to be finalized.
A separate section addresses Iran’s nuclear program. The document reaffirms Tehran’s commitment not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons and outlines plans for U.S.-Iran cooperation in the disposal of enriched uranium stockpiles.
The armed conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel began on February 28 and resulted in significant casualties, primarily in Iran and Lebanon. The conflict also triggered a global fuel crisis after shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted.
