Tajik Prime Minister, Uzbek President discuss expanding economic cooperation
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum to discuss further strengthening bilateral cooperation, according to the Uzbek president’s press service.
The two sides reportedly reviewed prospects for deepening ties based on friendship, good-neighborliness, strategic partnership, and allied relations between the two countries.
Particular attention was paid to expanding trade and economic cooperation, increasing bilateral trade and freight transportation, and advancing joint projects in industry, energy, electrical engineering, textiles, and agriculture.
The officials also stressed the importance of strengthening interregional ties, cross-border cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
According to the press service of the President of Tajikistan, Rasoulzoda conveyed greetings from President Emomali Rahmon to Mirziyoyev and noted that Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are united by centuries-old traditions of good-neighborliness and mutual respect.
The Tashkent International Investment Forum, taking place from June 16 to 18, is regarded as one of the largest investment platforms in Central Asia. Held for the fifth time this year, the forum has brought together thousands of participants from dozens of countries, including heads of state and government, representatives of international financial institutions, major companies, and investment funds.
Relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have continued to deepen in recent years. In April 2024, during Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Dushanbe, the two countries signed a Treaty on Allied Relations. A total of 28 agreements were also concluded, covering cooperation in industry, trade, transport, agriculture, science, education, tourism, and interregional development.
In March this year, President Emomali Rahmon paid a state visit to Uzbekistan. During talks held in Tashkent and Bukhara on March 26–27, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation. More than 20 new agreements were signed at a regional trade forum, while a business forum, a joint products exhibition, and Days of Tajik Culture in Uzbekistan were also held as part of the visit.
