The rules for entry into Europe have changed for Tajik carriers and citizens
The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan explained what will change for the citizens of the republic and international carriers.
A new Entry/Exit System (EES) has started operating in the European Union countries. It is already functioning at road, air, and rail checkpoints and covers the external borders of the Schengen Area.
The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reported on the innovations for Tajik carriers and citizens traveling to European countries.
As explained by the department, the new system applies to citizens of third countries, including Tajikistan, who visit Schengen Area states for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
The system covers 25 European Union countries, excluding Cyprus and Ireland, as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.

Now, when crossing the border, travelers’ biometric data and information about their movements will be recorded. In fact, the digital record in the EES will replace the traditional entry and exit stamps in passports.
The ministry noted that the system collects travel document data, the date and place of each entry and exit, as well as passengers’ biometric data.
Upon the first border crossing after registration in the system, travelers will have their fingerprints taken or a facial photograph made. This information will be stored in a digital profile and used for subsequent trips.
If a passenger has a biometric passport, they will be able to use automated self-service systems at several checkpoints to speed up the control process.
The Ministry of Transport reminded that the implementation of the EES began on October 12, 2025, when data collection started at the borders of participating countries.
The system was fully deployed at the external borders of the Schengen Area by April 10, 2026.
However, the new rules do not apply to EU citizens, residence permit and long-term visa holders, diplomats, employees of international organizations, certain categories of transport crews, and several other individuals as provided by European legislation.
What is the EES?The Entry/Exit System (EES) is part of the European Union’s border management reform. It is designed to automate border control and gradually phase out manual stamping in the passports of foreign citizens.
According to the European Union, the new system is expected to speed up border procedures, enhance security, and ensure more effective monitoring of compliance with the rules of stay in Schengen Agreement countries.
