The Tajik Ministry of Health discussed measures to combat antimicrobial resistance.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan held a roundtable discussion on measures to address antimicrobial resistance in order to strengthen treatment management systems, according to the press service of the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan.
The event was held as part of the discussion of the Expression of Interest project in collaboration with the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS). The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan Salomuddin Yusufi, Deputy Minister Abdukholik Amirzoda, representatives of international development partners, heads of departments and divisions of the ministry, as well as the heads of several national medical and treatment institutions.
Opening the meeting, First Deputy Minister Salomuddin Yusufi noted the importance of discussing a project aimed at reducing the inappropriate use of antimicrobials by implementing programs to manage their use in the country’s healthcare facilities. The roundtable discussed issues related to ICARS’s goals and international initiatives, the importance of the center’s activities for Tajikistan’s healthcare system, and the research framework for studying and implementing measures to combat antimicrobial resistance.
Participants discussed the main challenges associated with antimicrobial resistance in healthcare, ways to strengthen antimicrobial therapy management systems, improve diagnostic capacity, train healthcare workers, and raise public awareness. At the end of the meeting, specialists presented reports on the topic, shared the results of their research, and offered practical recommendations for further strengthening the antimicrobial control system in Tajikistan.
