As many countries have start gradually lifting lockdown restrictions, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 globally has crossed the landmark figure of 1.5 million, Johns Hopkins University said on Wednesday.
The United States still has the highest case count in the world, with 1,390,406 having been infected, including 84,119 fatalities. There are now more than 242,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Russia and over 2,200 people have died.
As for continental Europe, Italy and Spain remain the hardest hit, with 222,104 cases and 31,106 deaths, and 271,095 cases and 27,104 fatalities, respectively. The UK, meanwhile, has registered over 230,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 33,000 people have died.
The world passed the watershed level of 1 million recoveries from the coronavirus infection on 1 May.
