Young Tajik chess players compete at World Youth Championships in Italy and Georgia
Young chess players from Tajikistan are representing the country at two major international tournaments currently taking place in Italy and Georgia, according to the Chess Federation of Tajikistan.
The World Youth Chess Championships for boys and girls under the ages of 14, 16, and 18 are being held in the Italian city of Montesilvano from June 14 to 27. More than 800 players from dozens of countries are participating in the tournament, which is being contested over 11 rounds under the Swiss system.
Tajikistan’s delegation includes Dovoud Naimov, Bogdan Voskolovich, Pairav Qodiri, Jahongir Azizoda, Yosuman Khojayeva, Tomiris Khojayeva, and Nozanin Mahmoudova. The team is led by Jamshed Isoyev.
«Participation in the World Championship is not only an opportunity for young chess players to test themselves against the world’s strongest competitors, but also an important milestone in their sporting careers,» an official source within the Chess Federation of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus.
The federation noted that the tournament is one of the most prestigious events on the FIDE youth calendar and traditionally attracts the strongest players in each age category.
Meanwhile, the World Cadet Chess Championships for boys and girls under 8, 10, and 12 are being held in Batumi, Georgia, from June 15 to 28.
Tajikistan is reportedly represented by a team of national age-group champions, including Ayub Nosirov (U8), Ismira Shamsiyeva (Girls U8), Murodali Saifiyev (U10), Fotima Tursunova (Girls U10), Umar Okhounov (U12), and Mehroubon Bandishoyeva (Girls U12). The delegation is headed by Zafar Nazarzoda.
According to the federation, participation in the championship provides young athletes with valuable international experience and an opportunity to showcase their skills against top competitors from around the world.
«The children will compete against the strongest players from different countries, gain invaluable tournament experience, and proudly represent Tajikistan on the international stage,» the source said.
