Are electric cars getting cheaper in Tajikistan? What BYD and GAC models cost today
DUSHANBE, November 3, 2026 — Asia-Plus — Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common in Dushanbe, with BYD and GAC among the most visible brands. More affordable models are appearing on the market, but are electric cars actually getting cheaper? Asia-Plus compared prices on Tajikistan’s car marketplaces and examined global trends.
Have electric car prices fallen?
Advertisements suggest that some electric vehicles are now being offered at lower prices than a year ago.
In April 2025, 2024-model BYD E2 cars were listed on Paydo.tj for 133,500–140,600 somoni. By June 2026, prices for the same model and production year ranged from 115,000 to 133,000 somoni.
The average asking price in the listings examined fell from approximately 137,000 to 121,000 somoni — a difference of 11,7%.
However, this does not prove that the model became 11,7% cheaper. The vehicles may have differed in mileage, condition and equipment. A BYD E2 was also advertised for just 105,000 somoni in October 2025.
The GAC Aion V shows an even larger difference. A 2025 model was listed for 228,700 somoni in April 2025, while advertisements in 2026 showed prices as low as 140,000 somoni.
However, differences in specifications, including drivetrain configurations, make direct comparisons unreliable.
Similarly, advertised prices for the GAC Aion Y varied widely even within the same production year.
How much do electric cars cost in Tajikistan?
Asia-Plus examined advertisements on Paydo.tj, Somon.tj, MoshinaBozor and Auto.tj to compare asking prices.
ModelAdvertised price
BYD E2 (2024)112,500–133,000 somoni
GAC Aion S (2024)125,000 somoni
BYD Yuan Plus (2025)178,000 somoni
GAC Aion V (2026)141,000–185,000 somoni
BYD Song Plus EV (2025)240,000 somoni
BYD E9 (2026)182,000 somoni
These are individual asking prices, not market averages.
For example, a BYD E2 advertised for 112,500 somoni had traveled 87,000 kilometers, while a GAC Aion S priced at 125,000 somoni had covered 134,000 kilometers and held a taxi license.
Meanwhile, a 2025 BYD Yuan Plus was offered for 178,000 somoni with just 300 kilometers on the odometer.
Battery condition, mileage, equipment and customs status can significantly affect prices. Some vehicles have already cleared customs, while others are offered with promises that the necessary procedures will be completed.

Are electric vehicles becoming cheaper worldwide?
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), more than 20 million electric cars were sold worldwide in 2025, up 20% from the previous year. Approximately one in four new passenger cars sold globally was electric.
The agency forecasts sales of around 23 million electric cars in 2026. Its figures include both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
In China, electric vehicles accounted for nearly 55% of new passenger car sales in 2025, compared with 28% in Europe and less than 10% in the United States.
Prices are declining in some markets. According to the IEA, the average price of fully electric cars in Germany fell by approximately 6% in 2025.
In China, around 70% of fully electric vehicles sold in 2025 cost less than the average new gasoline- or diesel-powered car.
One reason is falling battery costs. According to BloombergNEF, the average price of lithium-ion battery packs declined by 8% globally in 2025, reaching 108 $ per kilowatt-hour. In China, the average was 84. $
Battery packs used specifically in fully electric passenger cars averaged 99 $ per kilowatt-hour.
What does this mean for Tajikistan?
China is a major supplier of electric vehicles to Tajikistan. According to the IEA, China accounted for nearly 75% of global electric vehicle production in 2025, while its exports doubled to more than 2.5 million units.
Greater production and competition in China could give Tajik buyers access to more affordable models.
However, transportation, customs clearance and sellers’ markups affect final prices in Tajikistan. Lower prices in China do not necessarily mean equivalent reductions in Dushanbe.
The advertisements examined by Asia-Plus show that relatively affordable electric cars are available, but prices vary considerably even within the same model.
Electric vehicles appear to be becoming more accessible in Tajikistan, although there is insufficient evidence to establish how much prices have actually fallen. For buyers, battery condition, mileage, equipment and customs clearance remain just as important as the advertised price.
