Nearly 140 Tajik school graduates compete for gold and silver medals
A total of 139 school graduates from across Tajikistan took part in a national competition for honors certificates and gold and silver medals, the Ministry of Education and Science reported.
The competition concluded in Dushanbe on July 30, although the final list of medal recipients has not yet been published.
Territorial education departments initially nominated 178 candidates, of whom 139 were admitted to the competition.
Fourteen graduates competed for a general honors certificate with a gold medal. Another 55 sought gold medals in the social sciences and humanities, while 64 competed for gold medals in mathematics and the natural sciences.
Five graduates competed for silver medals in mathematics and the natural sciences, and one for a silver medal in the social sciences and humanities.
The participants included 36 graduates from Dushanbe, 61 from Khatlon Province, 27 from Sughd Province, nine from the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and six from the Districts Subordinate to the Center (RRP).
The ministry said the number of graduates receiving gold and silver medals has increased in recent years. Eight students received medals in 2017, compared with 53 in 2021 and 73 in 2025.
Officials attributed the increase to improvements in the quality of education, teachers’ work, parental support and greater attention from school administrations to developing students’ abilities.
The final results will be approved by a separate order from the minister of education and science. Until then, it remains unclear how many of the 139 participants will receive honors certificates and medals.
Graduates awarded an honors certificate and a gold medal are entitled to enrol in a university of their choice without sitting entrance examinations and to study free of charge.
