Criminal proceedings instituted over alleged beating of child at Dushanbe kindergarten
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against an employee of Kindergarten No. 12 in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district over the alleged beating of a child, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science said at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 10.
The criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 174 of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code, which covers failure to fulfill duties related to the education and upbringing of a minor.
The ministry also said the kindergarten’s director had been dismissed following the incident.
According to ministry officials, the woman accused of beating the child worked as an assistant caregiver. She had temporarily taken over the duties of the main caregiver, who was on childcare leave.
The investigation also reportedly found that the employee had mistreated children on other occasions.
The inquiry is ongoing.
A video circulated on social media on May 7 showing a kindergarten employee handling a child roughly and striking him.
Following the publication of the footage, the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into Kindergarten No. 12.
Investigators examined the circumstances of the incident, the actions of the employee involved and the conduct of other officials responsible for the institution.
The investigation also assessed whether the kindergarten administration had failed to respond appropriately.
The district education department later said the situation was under control and stressed that violence and degrading treatment of children were unacceptable.
