Tajikistan and Turkmenistan sign foreign ministry cooperation program for 2027–2028
The agreement is aimed at strengthening coordination between the two countries’ foreign ministries and further developing strategic partnership.
Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have agreed on a two-year cooperation program between their foreign ministries for 2027–2028. The document was signed in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat, on August 20 following talks between Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the program provides for further expansion of inter-agency cooperation and coordination of the two countries’ foreign policy positions.
During the meeting, the sides reportedly discussed the current state and future prospects of Tajikistan–Turkmenistan strategic partnership and outlined steps to strengthen cooperation in various areas of bilateral relations.
Economic cooperation remains one of the key areas of interaction between the two countries.
According to official foreign trade statistics, the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan over the first six months of this year valued at about 27.4 $ million. During this period, Tajikistan imported goods worth 26.4 $ million from Turkmenistan, while exports of Tajik products amounted to around 1.1 $ million.
The main imported goods from Turkmenistan included petroleum products worth more than 11.8 $ million, bituminous mixtures and materials valued at about 2.4 $ million, and fresh tomatoes worth approximately 2.3 $ million. Tajikistan also imported construction materials, polymer products, textile raw materials, and other goods.
Tajik exports to Turkmenistan included marble and travertine products worth about 338,000, $ aluminum profiles valued at around 377,000, $ aluminum wire, agricultural products, beverages, and dried fruits.
The foreign ministers’ meeting was held as part of Sirojiddin Muhriddin’s official visit to Turkmenistan.
