How Dushanbe cafes are building a culture of care for animals
Dushanbe’s coffee scene has expanded rapidly in recent years, and customers are increasingly paying attention not only to menus and interiors, but also to the values behind a brand. One sign of this shift is the way cafés treat animals. Some welcome guests with pets, while others support shelters and stray animals through donations and long-term assistance.
For some establishments, being pet-friendly is simply part of creating a more open and comfortable space. For others, animal welfare has become a broader social commitment.
Kaffeine: «Pets are full-fledged family members»
Kaffeine has welcomed guests with pets almost since it opened. The management says the policy was never intended as a marketing strategy, but grew out of the owners’ own attitude toward animals.
«Many of our guests are pet owners, and we wanted to create a comfortable atmosphere where they could spend time together with their pets,» Kaffeine representatives said. «It was more of a personal initiative and a reflection of our values. We believe pets are full-fledged members of the family, so we saw no reason to prevent guests from bringing them along.»
The approach has helped the coffee shop build a loyal following among pet owners, many of whom previously had few places in Dushanbe where they could comfortably spend time with their animals.
The café says it also tries to consider visitors who may prefer not to be around pets. So far, however, it has not encountered any serious complaints or conflicts.
Bread&Coffee: «We don’t separate people from their pets»
At Bread&Coffee, the pet-friendly policy has been in place since the café’s first day.
«Our entire team and management love animals, so it felt completely natural to make the café open to four-legged friends,» the team said. «We didn’t think about image or trends. We simply wanted to create a place where we ourselves would feel comfortable.»
The café says its goal is to make guests feel at home without having to worry about leaving their pets outside.
According to the staff, animals in the dining area usually make other visitors smile and contribute to a warmer, more relaxed atmosphere. The café says it has not faced negative reactions from customers over the policy.
