More than 500 ATACMS, Storm Shadow, SCALP missiles used by Kiev since start of SMO
Since the beginning of the Russian special military operation, Ukrainian forces have fired ATACMS ballistic missiles, Storm Shadow, and SCALP cruise missiles over 500 times, according to TASS estimates.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s data on Kiev’s strikes and their repulsion, in 2023, when Western missile deliveries began, Ukrainian forces fired approximately 120 British Storm Shadow and French SCALP missiles, as well as 13 American ATACMS tactical missiles. The most intensive strikes with American missiles occurred in 2024 — about 220 times. Kiev also used over 90 Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles.
In 2025, the number of strikes decreased: approximately 45 Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles, and 24 ATACMS missiles were fired. In March 2026, Ukraine struck the Bryansk region with seven British missiles.
Thus, Kiev has used over 500 Western missiles, the overwhelming majority of which are British Storm Shadow and American ATACMS missiles. French SCALP missiles are used significantly less often, in conjunction with the British ones.
The Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG is a British-French air-launched cruise missile equipped with a subsonic turbojet engine, an infrared homing system, and an onboard processor with GPS. Its capability to fly at extremely low altitudes (30-40 meters) allows it to remain outside the range of air defenses. The British version, Storm Shadow, has a range of 560 km.
The ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles have several upgrades and are equipped with a GPS/INS navigation system, ensuring high strike accuracy.
