At least seven people were killed in the crash of a UPS cargo plane in Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear announced on Tuesday, November 4.

Since the plane had just taken off and was preparing for a long-haul flight, the fuel tanks were presumably full. According to police, the crash occurred approximately five kilometers south of the airport. UPS reported that there were three crew members on board the plane. According to the FAA, the plane was on a long-haul flight bound for Honolulu Airport in Hawaii. Footage from the scene shows a massive wall of flames and rising plumes of smoke. The plane crashed in an area home to a waste recycling facility and an auto parts store. It is currently unknown how many workers or customers were at these businesses at the time of the crash.
According to Governor Beshear, two employees are still missing. Rescuers are continuing to search for possible victims in the rubble. Following the crash, police imposed a curfew in the area where the incident occurred. "The situation is serious," Governor Beshear wrote on the social media site X, adding that he was heading to Louisville. Following the plane crash, the Louisville airport was closed. Departures and arrivals were temporarily suspended.
