Two new substations to be built to improve electricity supply to Dushanbe
Two new 220/110/10 kV substations are under construction in and around Dushanbe to improve the reliability of electricity supplies and reduce pressure on existing power networks. Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, inspected construction of the Gharbi (Western) substation in the capital on November 4 and attended a groundbreaking ceremony for another substation in Roudaki district.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the two projects are expected to strengthen the electricity supply to Dushanbe and surrounding areas, reduce technical losses and ease the load on existing transmission lines and substations.
New substation to be built near Victory Park
A new 220/110/10 kV substation will be constructed near Victory Park, in Qiblai rural jamoat of Roudaki district.
The facility is designed to improve the reliability of electricity supplies to Dushanbe and neighboring cities and districts.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Dushanbe Deputy Mayor Mehriddin Tohirzoda, Director-General of OJSC Shabakahoi Intiqoli Barq (Electricity Transmission Networks) Mirzo Mahmoudzoda, Japanese Ambassador to Tajikistan Keiko Furuta, and a representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project is being financed by the Tajik government and JICA, with OJSC Tajikgidroelektromontazh (TGEM — hydroelectric installation) serving as the construction contractor.
The project forms part of Tajikistan’s energy sector development plan for 2022–2030.
According to the ministry, the new substation will help reduce technical electricity losses and relieve pressure on existing substations and 110–220 kV transmission lines.
Construction is scheduled for completion in August 2028.
Gharbi substation to be completed in April 2028
On the same day, Daler Juma inspected construction of the Gharbi 220/110/10 kV substation in western Dushanbe.
According to the ministry, construction is progressing according to schedule. Site preparation has been completed, and temporary administrative and production facilities have been erected.
The substation will be equipped with two autotransformers, each with a capacity of 200 MVA.
OJSC Shabakahoi Intiqoli Barq is the project owner, while TGEM is responsible for construction.
Under the project, a double-circuit 220 kV transmission line will connect the Gharbi substation to the Regar-500 substation.
Six 110 kV cable lines will also be installed to connect Gharbi with the Sanoati, Boghi Iram and Zavodi substations.
These connections are expected to reduce the load on the Nav and Daryokanor substations and improve the stability of electricity supplies throughout the capital.
The Gharbi substation is scheduled to be completed in April 2028.
Asia-Plus previously reported on the launch of the project in April 2026. The facility is being built in the Juybodom neighborhood in western Dushanbe.
In addition to its main equipment, the substation will feature voltage regulation systems, relay protection and automation equipment, technical facilities and backup power supplies.
During his visits, Daler Juma instructed those responsible to ensure high construction standards and meet the established deadlines.
At the Gharbi site, he also emphasized the importance of close coordination between the project owner, the contractor and local authorities to prevent delays.
