Tajik migrants in Russia warned about liability for prohibited online content

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Labor representative office in Russia has urged Tajik citizens to exercise caution when using social media, messaging services and mobile applications.
The office warned that distributing extremist materials, promoting terrorism or sharing other prohibited content could lead to fines, administrative detention or criminal prosecution. Foreign nationals may also face deportation and a ban on re-entering Russia.
«The installation and use of illegal or prohibited applications may draw the attention of law enforcement agencies to your mobile device,» the representative office said.
It added that careless activity on social networks and messaging platforms could result in fines, criminal proceedings, deportation and a lengthy or indefinite entry ban.
The office advised migrants to:

• avoid joining suspicious groups and channels containing potentially extremist, political or religious content;
• refrain from responding to unknown users or adding them to contact lists;
• protect their phones with strong passwords and not hand devices over to third parties;
• download applications and other materials only from official and trusted sources;
• regularly review and remove unnecessary browsing history, downloaded files and content stored in messaging applications.

«The representative office recommends remaining vigilant and responsible when using digital tools to protect yourself and your relatives from legal problems and other negative consequences,» the statement said.
