Injured Russian tourist evacuated from Pamirs and flown to Moscow
A Russian tourist injured in the mountains of Tajikistan was evacuated by helicopter on July 26 and flew from Dushanbe to Moscow the following day.
Igor Bayer was airlifted from Moskvina Glade in the Pamirs to Lakhsh district (Rashkhs Valley in eastern Tajikistan) before travelling by road to the Tajik capital, Orif Nozimyon, a spokesperson for the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus.
According to Nozimyon, the tourist is feeling well and his condition is stable.
A helicopter operated by Tajikistan’s privately-owned Shohin Airlines picked Bayer up from Moskvina Glade on the morning of July 26. He arrived in Lakhsh district at 8:20 a.m. and left for Dushanbe by car at 9:30 a.m.
On July 27, he flew to Moscow.
The 22-year-old Russian citizen injured his leg while descending from the Turamis-1 Pass at an altitude of about 4,200–4,300 meters. He was travelling with a group of five tourists.
The Committee for Emergency Situations received information about the incident on July 18 from the group’s leader, Sergei Nasedkin. According to the Committee, Bayer slipped and injured himself while the group was descending from the pass.
His evacuation was initially scheduled for July 24. The Committee had prepared rescuers, a helicopter and an ambulance. After arriving in Dushanbe, the tourist was expected to be taken to the Istiqlol Medical Complex.
However, the emergency flight was cancelled after Bayer’s condition improved.
The group decided to wait for a scheduled Shohin Airlines flight to Moskvina Glade on July 26. The Committee for Emergency Situations said at the time that it was ready to arrange an evacuation if the private helicopter was unable to fly.
