More than 900 kilograms of drugs destroyed in Dushanbe
More than 900 kilograms of narcotic substances have been destroyed in Dushanbe under the supervision of a special commission, the city’s police department reported.
The drugs were burned after the relevant court rulings entered into force.
Of the total amount, 726 kilograms had been seized by officers of the Dushanbe police department and other police units during operational and investigative activities. The substances had served as evidence in criminal cases.
According to Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency, law enforcement agencies seized 2,963 kilograms of narcotic substances across the country during the first half of 2026. This was 5% less than in the same period of 2025.
Cannabis-group drugs accounted for the largest share, at more than 1.74 metric tons. Authorities also seized nearly 696 kilograms of opium-group drugs.
At the same time, seizures of psychotropic substances increased sharply, reaching 526 kilograms — 3.3 times more than in the first half of last year.
The substances included methamphetamine, MDMA, alprazolam and pregabalin. Pregabalin accounted for the largest share of psychotropic substances illegally brought into the country and seized by law enforcement agencies.
During the same six-month period, authorities seized 1,513 kilograms of drugs along the Tajik-Afghan border. This was 179 kilograms less than in the first half of 2025.
