Restrooms at gas stations, new glamping sites and tourist clusters: Tajikistan seeks to make travel more comfortable
Tajikistan has drafted a government resolution requiring the mandatory presence of restrooms and other sanitary facilities at gas stations, roadside cafes, and other facilities located along major highways. At the same time, the authorities intend to develop hotels, campgrounds, mobile communications, and tourist infrastructure in remote areas.
This was announced at a press conference in Dushanbe by Jamshed Jurakhonzoda, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of Tajikistan.
«We have prepared a draft government resolution on the mandatory availability of sanitary facilities at all locations — whether food service establishments or gas stations,» he said.
Once the resolution is adopted, the availability of restrooms will become one of the mandatory requirements for roadside businesses. Roadside facilities without sanitary conditions may be prohibited from operating.
«On all major highways, everywhere businesses establish facilities, this will be a mandatory requirement. If sanitary conditions are not in place, the facility will not be able to operate in accordance with the requirements of this resolution,» the committee chairman noted.
The problem persists on almost all highways in the country
Jurakhonzoda acknowledged that the problem with restrooms and sanitary conditions on the country’s major roads has still not been fully resolved. In particular, it persists on the Dushanbe–Khujand highway.«I agree that the problem on the main roads and highways still exists,» he stated.
