Fewer Tajiks leave for work abroad as organized employment expands
The number of Tajik citizens leaving the country for work declined by 2% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, while the number of returning labor migrants increased by 0,2%.
The figures were presented by Tajikistan’s Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment at a press conference in Dushanbe.
Labor Minister Soleha Kholmahmadzoda said that 23,584 Tajik citizens were officially employed abroad during the first six months of 2026. Of these, 22,761 secured jobs in 16 countries with the assistance of agencies operating under the ministry.
More than 100 Tajik citizens completed the required procedures and traveled to South Korea for employment. Another group of applicants is expected to take qualifying examinations in Tajikistan in August and September 2026.
During the same period, 2,198 Tajik citizens were sent to the United Kingdom for seasonal agricultural work.
The ministry is also working to expand organized labor migration programs with the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Japan, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Bulgaria.
