Two men jailed for up to 17 years over attack on taxi driver in Khatlon
A court in Kushoniyon district of Khatlon province has sentenced two young men to lengthy prison terms for attacking and robbing a Chakan Taxi driver of 800 somoni.
Varqa Zainiddin, senior assistant prosecutor of Khatlon province, told Asia-Plus that the Kushoniyon District Court handed down its verdict on April 18.
Manouchehr Sayedov was sentenced to 17 years in prison, while Sano Lutfullozoda received a 10½-year sentence.
Both men were found guilty under Articles 248 and 249 of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code, covering robbery and banditry.
According to the prosecutor, the attack took place on the night of December 21, 2025.
Sayedov, a 25-year-old resident of Kushoniyon district, and Lutfullozoda, a 19-year-old resident of Sangvor district, allegedly got into the taxi in Kushoniyon while posing as passengers.
They asked the driver to take them to a roadside location in the Bokhtariyon settlement, where they attacked him with a knife and injured him.
The assailants then took 800 somoni from the driver and forced him to drive them to Bokhtar. After reaching the city, they fled the scene.
It is not known whether the two men appealed the verdict. Their position, as well as that of their relatives, has not been made public.
This is not the first reported attack on a taxi driver in Tajikistan.
In an earlier case in Dushanbe, a passenger stabbed a taxi driver, leaving him seriously injured and disabled.
In another incident, the body of a murdered taxi driver was found in Yovon district. The trial of the suspects in that case is currently ongoing.
