Tajik FM meets with US Secretary of State in Washington to discuss cooperation
On June 30, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin held a meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Tajik-American relations, confirming their interest in further strengthening bilateral partnership based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and long-term cooperation.
Special attention was given to issues of trade-economic and investment interaction. In particular, the parties considered opportunities to increase the volume of mutual trade, improve the investment climate, and attract American companies to implement projects in Tajikistan’s priority economic sectors.
According to the U.S. Department of State, Marco Rubio emphasized the importance of exploring opportunities to expand commercial cooperation in the field of critical minerals and other priority sectors. The parties discussed expanding cooperation in the areas of security and counter-terrorism, as well as the significance of multilateral cooperation within the C5+1 diplomatic platform.
The United States also noted its partnership with Tajikistan in the healthcare sector. This refers to a five-year bilateral memorandum of understanding on global health signed in April. According to the State Department, this document became the first such agreement in South and Central Asia under the Trump administration’s America First Global Health Strategy.
On the same day, another round of annual bilateral consultations between the U.S. and Tajikistan took place in Washington. According to reports from both sides, the Tajik Foreign Minister was in Washington specifically to participate in these consultations, and the meeting with Rubio took place on the sidelines of the event.
