In Tajikistan, a population and housing census will be conducted in 2030
In Tajikistan, a population and housing census will be conducted from October 1 to October 31, 2030. The preparation and conduct of the census are provided for by the Decree of the President of Tajikistan, signed on June 6.
According to the Decree signed by Emomali Rahmon «On the preparation and conduct of the population and housing census of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2030,» the population and housing census will be conducted throughout the country from October 1 to October 31, 2030.
The Decree is adopted in accordance with Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan «On the Population Census.» Its goal is to obtain data on the number and distribution of the population in the country, notes the press service of the President of the RT.
This data will be used in the preparation of state forecasts, concepts, strategies, and programs for the socio-economic development of the republic, as well as in the study of demographic processes.
The organization of preparation, conduct of the census, data processing, summarization, and publication of results are entrusted to the Agency on Statistics under the President.
For the preparation and conduct of the census, the Agency on Statistics is allowed to hire workers on a contractual basis.
The expenses for maintaining these workers will be covered by the funds allocated for the population and housing census.
To ensure timely and high-quality organization of the census, an increase in the average salary of the hired workers by 1.5 times compared to the official salaries of the employees of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is also provided.
The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan is instructed to ensure the financing of the work on preparation, conduct, summarization, and publication of the census results based on the proposals of the Agency on Statistics.
Financing will be carried out from the state budget funds for 2026–2033 and grants from international organizations.
Ministries, departments, and local executive bodies of state power are instructed to provide comprehensive practical assistance to the state statistical bodies for the qualitative and timely conduct of the census.
As of January 1, 2026, the population of Tajikistan is 10.721 million people.
