Loader driver dies at gold mining enterprise in Khatlon
A loader driver died in an accident at the Gandji Vahdat gold mining enterprise in Khatlon province, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of June 9 in the village of Zelolak, located in the Shugnov jamoat (rural municipality) of Khovaling district.
According to the Committee, the driver, identified as M. Davlatzoda, lost control of a front loader and drove into a reservoir on the enterprise’s premises. Preliminary information suggests that the accident occurred due to a violation of safety regulations.
Following the report, a special rescue team from the Committee’s regional department for the Kulob zone of Khatlon province was dispatched to the scene.
Rescuers recovered the driver’s body from the water and handed it over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
The Emergencies Committee has once again urged citizens to observe safety regulations near bodies of water and to ensure that children and teenagers are not left unattended.
The Shugnov area of Khovaling district is home to one of Tajikistan’s major gold-bearing deposits, where several mining companies operate.
The latest incident follows another fatal accident at the Shugnov gold mine, where four workers were killed in a landslide. According to local authorities and the Committee’s regional office in Khatlon, heavy rainfall caused the soil to become unstable, triggering a collapse of rock onto workers engaged in gold extraction.
The Committee said the accident was caused by prolonged rainfall and soil erosion. The circumstances surrounding the incident were investigated by the Industrial and Mining Safety Control Service, while the prosecutor’s office launched a separate inquiry.
