Four young people killed in traffic accident in southern Tajikistan
Four young people were killed in a traffic accident in Tajikistan’s Farkhor district, the Interior Ministry’s official website reported.
According to the ministry, the accident occurred on June 7 on a road in the Vatan jamoat. A 58-year-old local resident, Faizali Sharifov, reportedly lost control of his Hyundai Starex, crossed into the oncoming lane, and collided with an Opel passenger car.
Four passengers in the Opel sustained serious injuries and later died at the district hospital.
The victims, aged between 15 and 31, were all residents of the village of Sadoqat in Farkhor district, Khatlon province.
The ministry did not provide information about the condition of the drivers involved in the crash.
The accident comes less than two weeks after a series of fatal road incidents in Khatlon province during the Eid al-Adha holiday on May 27, which left seven people dead and six others injured.
According to the Interior Ministry, one of those accidents occurred on the Danghara–Bokhtar highway, where a driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier, killing the driver and two passengers.
In two other traffic accidents, two people were killed and another person was injured.
In another incident, an 18-year-old motorcyclist who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol struck a six-year-old girl on the Dushanbe–Lower Panj highway. The child later died in hospital.
Later that same day, the driver of an Opel Astra died after colliding with a bulldozer, while five passengers were injured.
Road accidents remain a serious problem in Tajikistan. According to official statistics, 643 people were killed in traffic accidents across the country in 2025.
