Tajikistan’s Civil Registry Offices Lead in Number of Corruption Complaints
Based on a large-scale survey by the Anti-Corruption Agency conducted among 10,000 citizens of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Justice ranked fourth in the overall index of corrupt agencies. 9,1% of all respondents who encountered corruption accused the structures of this ministry of taking bribes. Among all those who encountered corruption in the Ministry of Justice, 48,9% accused the Civil Registry Service — the body responsible for registering marriages, births, and deaths — of taking bribes. This is the highest rate within the ministry.
The State Notary Office ranks second with 35%. A notary is an authority approached for document certification, real estate transactions, and wills.
Together, these two subdivisions account for over 83% of all reported cases of corruption in the Ministry of Justice.
