A blogger people trust with their secrets: an interview with Shahzoda Mansourova
Journalist Aliya Khamidullina met with Tajik blogger Shahzoda Mansourova in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where she has been living with her family for the past several years.
Mansourova is among the few Tajik bloggers who openly discuss issues that are often considered taboo in society. Through her content, she addresses topics such as gambling addiction, fraud, domestic violence, and other pressing social problems. As a result, many followers view her as a trusted confidant and turn to her with their personal stories.
In an interview for Aliya Khamidullina’s author project, «Close-Up: People of Tajikistan,» Mansourova spoke about what inspired her to raise sensitive social issues and why she believes these conversations are necessary.
She also reflected on her decision to leave a career in dentistry for blogging, how she copes with criticism and online hate, why she remains outside the mainstream circle of Tajik influencers, and the personal price she has paid for staying true to her views.
