Afghan refugee detained in Tajikistan on suspicion of killing his father
An Afghan citizen who had been living with his family in Vahdat Township for about two years has been detained on suspicion of murdering his father, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
Criminal proceedings have bene instituted against the 25-year-old Parviz Davlatzoda under Article 104 of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code — murder; an investigation is under way.
According to the Interior Ministry, the incident occurred around midday on June 1 near a fruit store on Somoniyon Street in Vahdat.
Investigators say a conflict broke out between Davlatzoda and his 52-year-old father, Sohibdod Davlatzoda, although the circumstances and motive have not yet been established.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly stabbed his father twice — once in the chest and once in the back. The victim died at the scene from his injuries.
The suspect was detained by officers of the Vahdat police department. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence ranging from eight years to life imprisonment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Vahdat Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect’s position regarding the charges has not been disclosed.
Musavvir Bahaduri, head of the Committee of Afghan Refugees in Tajikistan, confirmed the incident and said the victim was buried on the evening of June 1.
